Simply put, you can use conventional monitors with video cards equipped with modern DisplayPort connectors. This adapter will also make easier to assemble a multi-monitor ATI Eyefinity setup. AMD Radeon HD 5000 series video cards support a multi-monitor technology called ATI Eyefinity, which enables a single GPU to support up to six independent display outputs simultaneously. The problem is that to assemble a multi-monitor ATI Eyefinity setup you have to use at least one DisplayPort output. You cannot build an ATI Eyefinity configuration with tree monitors using two DVI and one HDMI connectors, for example.
