Computex 2012: Enermax to Enter the Liquid Cooling Market

This year, Enermax is going to release a sealed liquid CPU cooling solution, based on a 120 mm fan and radiator. Called the ELC120, it will have a thermal design power (TDP) of 250 W and will use the following: a twister-bearing fan spinning between 1,300 rpm and 2,000 rpm with a noise level between 16 dBA and 23 dBA, a ceramic-bearing pump, and a copper plate based on micro channel architecture. This plate also uses a gap in the middle, or a “speed bump,” if you will, to lower the drop in pressure of the cooling liquid entering the plate.

Enermax showed us a demo comparing the ELC120 to two of their competitors. (Enermax didn’t disclose the manufacturers and models of the competitors.) In Figure 3, you can see the setup of the demo. In Figure 4, you have a screenshot of the data recorder used to show temperature over time. The green line marked “1” traces the results for the Enermax ELC120. The test consisted of heating the plates of the three coolers to the same temperature and then turning on the coolers. As you can see, the ELC120 was able to drop the plate’s temperature faster than the other two products.
