ASUS Launches the RT-AC66U 802.11ac Router
Author: Cássio LimaDate: July 26, 2012 - 9:09 AM PST

More Info: http://www.asus.com/Networks/Wireless_Routers/RTAC66U/

The ASUS RT-AC66U is a dual-band Wi-Fi router compatible with the latest 802.11ac standard.

Wi-Fi standards have gone from 802.11a to 802.11.b, 802.11.g, 802.11.n and now to 802.11.ac. The new standard is dubbed “fifth-generation Wi-Fi” because it’s the fifth generation of the technology certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance marketing consortium. Unlike the 802.11n wireless standard, which can use either the 2.4 GHz or the 5 GHz frequency bands, 802.11ac devices operate exclusively on the 5 GHz band, which is less prone to interference.

The ASUS RT-AC66U makes use of a Broadcom dual-band wireless chip, providing speeds of up to 1,300 Mbps on 5 GHz and 450 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. The RT-AC66U comes with software to allow consumers to monitor and control the home network remotely. It also provides users with easy access to manage and stream local content from a connected USB drive to mobile devices. In addition, the ASUS RT-AC66U comes with three detachable antennas, two USB ports, four Gigabit Ethernet ports, and is backwards compatible with previous generation 802.11 wireless standards.

The ASUS RT-AC66U router is now available with a retail price of USD 199.99 at Newegg.com.
