The giant chipmaker today announced a deal to acquire all of the GPU/chipset specialist’s outstanding shares for USD 4.2 billion in cash and 57 million shares of AMD common stock (totalling about USD 5.4 billion). The transaction, which completely reshapes the CPU, GPU and chipset markets, is expected to close in the fourth quarter pending shareholder and regulatory approval.
