Intel develop CMOS Wi-Fi standard

Intel announced it has developed a prototype of an all-CMOS direct conversion dual-band radio transceiver capable of supporting Wi-Fi standards from the 802.11a to the upcoming 802.11n. The piece contains an integrated power amplifier, but does not integrate all its elements into a single die. It uses a specific packaging to interconnect the CMOS tranceiver die with separate low noise amplifiers and the 5 GHz power one. The company believes this approach will help mantain manufacturing costs and prices low.
