Extended Memory 64 Technology
64-bit memory addressing technology released by Intel in order to compete with AMD’s 64-bit technology.
Its main advantage is to allow Intel processors to access more than 4 GB of RAM. Since the 386 processor Intel processors use a 32-bit address bus, which allows access of up to 4 GB RAM (2^32). With EM64T technology, the CPU can access up to 16 EB of RAM memory (2^64, one exabyte equals to 2^60).
