Communications and Network Riser
Type of slot created by Intel for installing HSP (Host Signal Processing) devices, such as audio cards, modem and network cards. In HSP technology the control is transferred from the device to the system’s processor. The advantage of this approach is the price, since the electronics of the device is simpler. The disadvantage is the performance; since this technology uses the PC main CPU, the system has less available resources for other tasks. The performance drop can or cannot be noticed, it will depend on the system’s configuration.
CNR slot is almost identical to AMR. The difference between them is the location on the motherboard. While AMR slot is located on the middle of the motherboard, CNR slot is located near the motherboard edge.
