Personal System 2

(1) Computer launched by IBM in 1997 to be its IBM AT successor. PS/2 was, generally speaking, incompatible with the older PC, XT and AT, because it used plugs in different sizes and a new slot type (MCA). Other manufacturers kept manufacturing PCs using the same standards introduced with IBM AT (ISA slots, for instance).

(2) Any kind of plug originally lauched with PS/2 computer from IBM, especially the keyboard and the mouse connectors. Mouse and keyboard connectors introduced with PS/2 were 6-pin mini-DIN, while PCs from other manufacturers used the plugs introduced with IBM AT computers, like 5-pin DIN keyboard connectors and serial mouse (9-pin or 25-pin connectors). Nowadays PCs do use PS/2 keyboard and mouse connectors. After the introduction of PC97 specification, these connectors became colored: green for mouse and purple for keyboard.
