Pin Grid Array or Professional Graphics Adapter

(1) Integrated circuits packaging pattern. On PC usually processors (and many years ago, math co-processors) use this kind of packaging. The integrated circuit is squared with its pins on the bottom and is installed on the printed circuit board through a socket. It has several versions, depending on the material used: ceramic (CPGA), plastic (PPGA) or organic (OPGA).

(2) Video standard released by IBM in 1984. This video board price tag was beyond USD 4,000 and it was huge, using three printed circuit boards ”stacked“. The board had a dedicated 8088 processor. It required a special video monitor and was aimed to CAD applications. Its maximum resolution was 640x480, the same of VGA.
