Crazy Retro-Looking Cell Phone Handsets
Author: Gabriel TorresDate: January 15, 2009 - 11:18 AM PST

Of all the stuff I and Cássio saw during CES 2009 probably the craziest one was a series of retro-looking phone handsets for your cell phone, from a company called YUBZ (pronounced “why you busy”). They are available in two versions: wired or wireless, using Bluetooth technology. Now imagine you walking down the street, your phone ringing and you picking up a red phone receiver like the “hot line” between Batman and Commissioner Gordon on the 1960’s TV show. Definitely a terrific ice-breaker, especially when you go partying.

They are available in several different colors. Below Cássio shows the golden one attached to his cell phone.

The company also provides several different adaptors to allow the use of the receiver with cell phones that use a different kind of plug. They also have a USB adapter that allows you to connect the receiver to your PC, to use it with Skype.

The wired version is being sold in the US for USD 45, while the Bluetooth version is being sold for USD 80. They also displayed a fancy leopard-print Bluetooth model hand-encrusted with Swarovski crystals that costs USD 1,800 and will make you look like “Da Pimp”. See me playing with it below.
