Summary

The ideal conditions for overclocking socket 775 Pentium 4 processors are:

  • Use a motherboard not based on Intel 915 and 925 chipsets;
  • Pick up a motherboard model that allows the configuration of the PCI Express bus clock in a fixed frequency (enter setup and change the PCI Express clock from ”Auto“ to a fixed value, as 100 MHz);
  • If that isn’t possible, choose a video card with ATI chip, because those chips tolerate more the PCI Express bus clock than NVIDIA chips;
  • If you’re using Intel chipset (i915 or i925), increase the chipset voltage, in case your motherboard has that option;
  • Use a regular (PATA) IDE hard disk.
