At times you will find some existing device in your PC not installed or not correclty configured under Windows' Device Manager. It is possible to identify these cases in the Device Manager (icon System in Control Panel), through the key "Other Devices". Usually the the problematic device is listed either as "Unknown Devices" or "Unsupported Devices" (see Figure 1).
Figure 1: Sound Blaster 16 Unsupported Device.
It is possible to find exactly which is the device not accepted by removing it (just select it and click in the box "Remove") and clicking in the box "Refresh". The device will be detected again.
The most frequent cases are the new PCs with Windows 95 installed. Most Windows 95 versions do not recognize the newest chipsets and the USB BUS, listing both devices as not accepted (they appear as "PCI Bridge" and "PCI Card", respectively). Sound Blaster 16 audio card is another frequent issue. Figure 1 shows an audio card component that is not accepted.
Sound Blaster 16 uses a circuit that informs the existence of the following components to operational system:
- Audio circuit
- Joystick port
- IDE port for CD-ROM IDE connection
- Wave Table synthesizer
Sound Blaster 16 audio cards do not have Wave Table synthesizer! This component exists only in the Sound Blaster 32 audio cards and above!
Therefore, a device not accepted will appear in the Device Manager. It is the Wave Table synthesizer, and the audio card circuit informs to the operational system that it exists but not in the audio card.
To solve this issue, install the following file: ftp://ftp.rus.ru/support/sound/creative/sbw9xup.exe.
