Introduction

GeForce 7900 GT is the simplest video card in the high-end GeForce 7900 chip family from nVidia, being an option for those users willing to have a high-end video card but not wanting to buy the most expensive one. But if you want a GeForce 7900 GT with a performance higher than the standard model costing almost the same, XFX provides a full series of overclocked models. We reviewed XFX GeForce 7900 GT 550M XTREME 256 MB with VIVO (PV-T71G-UCP7), which is an overclocked GeForce 7900 GT with video capture function. Let’s see how is the performance of this propelled model from XFX.

GeForce 7900 GT standard specs are 450 MHz clock for the GPU and 1.32 GHz clock for the video memory.

XFX currently has nine (yes, nine) different GeForce 7900 GT models on their catalog:

  • PV-T71G-UDLR/7: 450 MHz clock, 1.3 GHz memory clock, 256 MB 256-bit GDDR3. A.k.a. “XFX GeForce 7900GT 256MB DDR3”. That’s XFX version for the standard GeForce 7900 GT.
  • PV-T71G-UCL7/R: 450 MHz clock, 1.3 GHz memory clock, 256 MB 256-bit GDDR3. A.k.a. “XFX GeForce 7900 GT 450M XTREME 256MB with VIVO”. That’s a standard GeForce 7900 GT with VIVO (video capture) function.
  • PV-T71G-UDF7/R: 470 MHz clock, 1.37 GHz memory clock, 256 MB 256-bit GDDR3. A.k.a. “XFX GeForce 7900GT 256MB DDR3” (notice that XFX uses the same name used by the standard GeForce 7900 GT on this overclocked model).
  • PV-T71G-UCF7: 470 MHz clock, 1.37 GHz memory clock, 256 MB 256-bit GDDR3. A.k.a. “XFX GeForce 7900 GT 470M XTREME 256MB with VIVO”. This is the model above with VIVO (video capture) function.
  • PV-T71G-UDE7/R: 520 MHz clock, 1.5 GHz memory clock, 256 MB 256-bit GDDR3. A.k.a. “XFX GeForce 7900GT 256MB DDR3 Extreme Edition”.
  • PV-T71G-UCE7: 520 MHz clock, 1.5 GHz memory clock, 256 MB 256-bit GDDR3. A.k.a. “XFX GeForce 7900 GT 520M XTREME 256MB with VIVO”. This is the model above with VIVO (video capture) function.
  • PV-T71G-UDPR/7: 550 MHz clock, 1.63 GHz memory clock, 256 MB 256-bit GDDR3. A.k.a. “XFX GeForce 7900GT 256MB DDR3 Extreme Edition”.
  • PV-T71G-UCP7: 550 MHz clock, 1.63 GHz memory clock, 256 MB 256-bit GDDR3. A.k.a. “XFX GeForce 7900 GT 550M XTREME 256MB with VIVO”. This is the model above with VIVO (video capture) function. This is the model we reviewed.
  • PV-T71G-UDDR/7: 560 MHz clock, 1.65 GHz memory clock, 256 MB 256-bit GDDR3. A.k.a. “XFX GeForce 7900GT 256MB DDR3 XXX Edition”.

As mentioned before, we reviewed XFX GeForce 7900 GT 550M XTREME 256 MB with VIVO (PV-T71G-UCP7), which runs at 550 MHz and accesses its memory at 1.63 GHz (815 MHz DDR).

With this clock specs, this particular model from XFX is positioned between GeForce 7900 GT and GeForce 7900 GTX, which runs at 650 MHz and accesses its memory at 1.6 GHz – as you can see, this overclocked model accesses its video memory at a higher clock rate than GeForce 7900 GTX. Actually there is no other technical difference between GeForce 7900 GT and GeForce 7900 GTX besides their clock rates, as they both share all other specs, including 24 pixel shader engines. In fact, they also share the same basic specs as GeForce 7950, but as GeForce 7950 GX2 uses two GeForce 7950 chips it has everything doubled.

You can see in our tutorial “nVidia Chips Comparison Table” the difference between GeForce 7900 GT and other chips from nVidia, while on our tutorial “ATI Chips Comparison Table” you can compare it to its competitors from ATI.

On Figures 2 and 3 you can see XFX GeForce 7900 GT 550M XTREME 256 MB with VIVO (PV-T71G-UCP7). As you can see, its DVI connectors are lime yellow and it has a black metallic support on its top, where is written “XFX”.
