| Conclusions |
With perpendicular recording technology we will see a increase in hard disk drive storage capacities in a short period of time and we will reach the 1 terabyte barrier very soon. Just to give you an idea, Seagate launched recently their new Barracuda 7200.10 hard disk drive family, which is based on perpendicular recording, featuring models up to 750 GB! Portable devices will also benefit from this technology, as more bits will fit in a smaller physical space. Let’s wait to see how the performance of hard disk drives based on perpendicular recording is compared to standard longitudinal recording ones. |
