If you are a media guy walking around on IDF you are an easy prey for AMD. This time we got caught and we could see some Turion 64 X2 reference design boards running, a Santa Rosa prototype and an Athlon 64 based on socket AM2 prototype.

The socket AM2 Athlon 64 was installed on a black case we couldn’t open running on a Windows where the demo guy removed the “Processors” device type from the Device Manager. Duh. We had to believe what was inside the box was what they were saying.

The server demo was running a Santa Rosa prototype, a new version of dual-core Opteron processor supporting DDR2 memories and AMD’s Virtualization Technology (Pacifica), scheduled to arrive the market on Q3’06.

There were two reference designs for Turion 64 X2 (dual-core version of Turion 64) running, one based on ATI chipset (Xpress) and the other based on nVidia’s (SLI Power).
