Introduction

Pentium M is an Intel processor targeted to the mobile market and used on the first generations of the Centrino platform. In this tutorial we will present the main features of this processor and tables containing all models released to date.

Centrino isn’t a laptop processor but a platform containing specific components set by Intel: a given processor, a given chipset and a given wireless network. A laptop can only be called Centrino if it has these three components. Please read our Everything you Need to Know About The Centrino Platform for further details about subject.

Pentium M processor was released on March 2003 using Intel’s sixth generation microarchitecture, i.e. the same architecture used by Pentium Pro, Pentium II and Pentium III processors. To learn more about how Pentium M processor works, read our tutorial Inside Pentium M Architecture.

Pentium M processors can be found with two different cores: Banias (manufactured using 130 nm process) and Dothan (manufactured using 90 nm process). In this tutorial we will explain everything you need to know about these cores and also tables listing all Pentium M models released to date.
